Neulii AC Clean Saver Cream Review

In the Korean language, Neul means always. I am delighted to be gifted with another set of K-beauty products and this time from Neulii. My husband reads the brand as New-leeeeeee which I find a bit funny. I received a toner and a cream which apparently are from their Red line. Let's talk about the latter, shall we?

Pinctada South Sea Pearl Soap Review

I like that I am discovering more and more local products. Here's another item gifted to me for an honest review: Pinctada South Sea Pearl Soap! I remember using Korean sheet masks with pearl ingredients and it's fascinating to know that there's a local brand doing the same. Not just that, the pearl powder used in this handcrafted soap came from our very own pearl farms in Palawan.

Bareface PH Clarifying Serum Review

Last month, I joined a giveaway contest hosted by Bareface PH, a promising local skincare brand and luckily won their Clarifying Serum and Detox Bar. This is one win out of hundred giveaways that I participated in Instagram! I like the fact that the products are Filipino-made given that I am enthused to explore our local skincare. In this review, I'll be talking about their serum.

Solved Skincare Coconut Oil Cleansing Pads Review

When I hear the word coconut, I also think of rice cakes and the beach. I heard a long time ago that adding coconut oil to your drink can do miracles for the body. I also heard that Solved Skincare Coconut Oil Cleansing Pads won Sokoglam's Best of K Beauty 2019. This may sound too randomly coconut-ish as an intro (haha!) but I'm here to share my thoughts with this delish-scented cleansing pads.

Solved Skincare Coconut Oil Cleansing Pads

Said to be suitable for all skin types, this skincare product intends to clear away oil-based debris such as sebum, pollutants, makeup and spf.

Senka Perfect Whip Foam Cleanser Review

It is known that Shiseido is a luxury brand but Senka was introduced to be an economical choice under the same umbrella. I'm lucky that Team Senka Philippines sent me Japan's best-selling products: Senka Perfect Whip Foam Cleanser and Perfect White Clay. In this review, I'll be talking about the former.

DIY Evil Queen Snow White Halloween Costume for Kids

Halloween is a perfect reason to do what I enjoy: Do-It-Yourself costume! Yey! For this year, one of my girls became Snow White and the other was the Evil Queen.

In the Philippines, the most popular Disney villain character (as of this writing I guess) is Maleficent and I am very certain that it is because of Angelina Jolie's film of the same name. Based on our experience with this costume, people didn't have a hint who my eldest daughter was until she was paired with Snow White. I relished the idea that the costume wasn't that mainstream to the point you can't buy a ready-made one.

Now I want to share with you my DIY Evil Queen costume. It's very easy!

Thank You Farmer True Water Deep Serum Review

What is your favorite part of skincare routine? Mine is serum! Before exploring skincare, I had nil idea what serums are about. Just in case you're in that stage at the moment: facial serums are highly concentrated liquid formulated to target a particular skincare issue. There are those intended for acne, for dull skin and also for aging. Since I have this certain fondness of serums, I was extremely happy when Thank You Farmer gifted me with one of their products: True Water Deep Serum!

Thank You Farmer is a Korean brand which imbibes our farmers’ concept of natural and farm-grown ingredients. The brand does not promise rapid results but through time, patience and efficacy of their products, it will lead to a skin which is bright, resilient and healthy.

Thank You Farmer True Water Deep Serum

True Water Deep Serum is an anti-wrinkle and brightening skincare product that works through sustaining moisture deeply into the skin. It is stated to be good for all skin types.

Keep Cool and Soothe Lotion Review

I've been an Instagram follower of Keep Cool Global and it's very fortunate that I was selected to receive and review their latest product: Keep Cool and Soothe Lotion. Since I have a combination skin type living in a tropical country, I intently stay away from rich creams. Lotion is generally lighter than cream so it is my go-to product when it comes to moisturizing my face.

Keep Cool Global was founded in 2015. This Korean beauty brand offers skincare products that are developed using their own unique technology while adapting the tagline: Keep It, Stay Cool

Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun SPF50+ PA++++ Review

If I am being honest, I only started to use a stand-alone sunscreen product in my skincare routine this year. Sorry if this statement made you flinch! Haha! I am on my early 30s so imagine how many years had gone without proper protection from the sun. Although I use sunblock immensely during beach trips, I thought daily UV defense from tinted moisturizers and compact powder will already suffice.

I saw a brand in Instagram called Purito and if I were to choose a product for hashtag: #InstagramMadeMeBuy, this is it: Centella Green Level Safe Sun SPF50+ PA++++.

Recellme 28 days A-Free Serum Review

Do you participate in Instagram giveaways? I did! Last August, I won a beauty giveaway in Instagram for the first time. One of the products I received was Recellme 28 Days A-Free Serum.

Recellme is a new Korean brand which was just launched this year. Having all-natural ingredients, the brand's objective is to work on pimple and acne concerns while providing anti-aging assistance at the same time. Its tagline is "An affordable luxury your skin deserves".

Go Glam Nail Stamper by Spin Master - Mommy Thoughts

I believe that when a mom shimmers, she also shimmer with her kids. Last weekend, my daughter Thea picked Go Glam Nail Stamper as a gift from doing so well in school. This product is repeatedly aired in commercials in Disney channel like some kind of hypnotism to the kids. Well I think I was the one who got hypnotized the fact I was the one happier when Thea chose this over an LOL Surprise Doll. Ha! Because it’s something kikay, I knew in an instant that the three of us (including my youngest Aaliyah) will enjoy this product.

We bought this set in Toys R Us. Yes, we still have TRU in the Philippines.
Little mystery box/bag on this photo are not included.

Types of Mask That You Need in your Skincare Life

It is not a secret that masking is essential part of every skincare regimen.

Although masks have been utilized over centuries, the first commercialized facial mask was called "Toilet Mask" and was invented by Madame Helen M. Rowley in 1857. She patented her invention which she called "Mask for Medical Purposes".

Take a look at this ad:

Now that's history! The fact that it's strapped on the head, it seems that this toilet mask is not too comfortable to wear. However, I would like to commend Madame Rowley for such an amazing beauty idea which paved way for other masks to be discovered.

Now let's go back to present as I have here the types of mask you may need in your life. I also included product recommendations that are tried and tested by yours truly.

1. Sheet Mask

Sheet masks are individually packed sheet fabrics soaked in essences targeting a specific skin concern. The sheets which take the shape of the face are usually made up of cellulose, fiber or cotton and are put on the face for a certain amount of time.

Try Dr. Morita Platinum Colloid & Hematite Extraction Whitening Black Facial Mask.

Purchase this at Watson's for P74.

Skinpotions Tomato Serum Review

I'm quite ashamed to say that I do not have a lot of local skincare products and makeup in my stash. Although, I have been using Belo Essentials Pore Minimizing Facial Wash since I was 19 years old, I feel like I have not been exploring our local brands enough.

When I was starting to look for skincare products that are affordable, I found a Filipino brand in BeautyMNL called Skinpotions. I learned that one of their holy grail products is their Tomato Serum. And since I am a sucker for serums, I immediately bought one to test it out.

Mediheal Airguard Foilab Mask Review

The first time I learned about Mediheal was when I watched the KDrama series in Netflix, Fight for My Way starring my favorite Korean actor Park Seo Joon and Descendants of the Sun's Kim Ji-won. This Airguard Foilab Mask or what I call the golden mask is also the first product I've tried from this brand.

Mediheal Airguard Foilab Mask

This mask aims to brighten, firm and moisturize the skin.

Pixi Glow Tonic and Glow Mud Mask Review: Are They Worth the Hype?

I had my eye on Pixi when I started my skincare journey. Whilst most of their products already have good reputation, another reason why I bought their merchandise is their cute packaging: colors green and gold. On this blog, I’ll be reviewing these popular Pixi products: Glow Mud Mask and the Glow Tonic. Both of these cult favorites are free from parabens and are not tested on animals.

Technology led the way for us to live in an era where we can shop at the comfort of our own homes. Dr.Jart+ Shake & Shot Shaking Rubber Luminous Shot Review

One fact about me - I love masking! On this blog post, I'll be featuring Dr. Jart+ Shake & Shot - Luminous Shot Shaking Rubber Mask. Well, that name took eternity to say. I thought Dr.Jart+ is a US brand but upon doing my quick research, it originated in Korea. Aside from the fact that this is first product I bought from this skincare line, this is also the first modeling mask I’ve ever tried so I am excited to share my thoughts on this one.

I find the packaging cute with a human face as the cup cover design.

Korean Beauty Products I Wish Existed in the 90s/ Early 2000s

One day after school, I saw my Mom scrutinizing 3 small green boxes on her hands. She was reading the texts carefully while I was innocently looking at the numbers 1, 2, 3 labeled on them. I told myself that the number 1 box must be the best. I asked what are those for and she told me lovingly that the mini bottles inside will make her face more beautiful. Being a 90s kid who’s naive with beauty standards of that time, I did not understand what she meant. I watched as my mom religiously apply those liquids on her face. Then one night, the face she was taking care of became red and tender. She finally let go of those horrible astringent products.

I think women of today are very lucky to have resources when it comes to skincare options. Long before internet and social media, we rely most of the time on what is heavily advertised on TV. Korean beauty products aren’t shown on local television even at present time but their campaigns on internet reach more people enough to be known in most households. Kbeauty products are on the rise today and not only they are effective, they are pretty affordable too.

Now if I were to go back in time, these are the KBeauty skincare goodies which I have tried and tested and will give to my younger Mom.

Laneige Clear C Peeling Mask - This wash off mask comes in a cute and sturdy pink jar. It has a wonderful yogurt-like texture which has strawberry seeds that gently exfoliates and does not make the skin dry at the same time. It may be a little pricey for a mask but I think it's worth it thinking how it leaves my face fresh, soft, and every time I use this product.

About me

Hello, I am Hershey located in Manila, Philippines. I am a mom of 2 and I enjoy writing things about beauty and skincare.

When I was a kid, I used to write poems and children's short stories. The first book series that I indulged myself into was R.L. Stine's Goosebumps. After so many years and now that I am already a mother, I found it surprising that I am going back to my first loved hobby - writing.

I considered myself a fashion enthusiast before my desire with skincare rose up. I love clothes and shoes - I was a sneakerhead (Nike Air Jordans). I knew I will be forever in love with fashion but then I got to explore the skincare world. This opened my eyes more to another aspect of beauty.

I have a normal-combo skin type. Growing up, I had a huge share of insecurities due to teenage breakouts. When I turned adult, my face stopped being remarkably problematic however eczema hit me on my hands. This is the major skin concern I have been battling until now.

If you're wondering why it's Shimmering Mom? Hershey - merring. I hope that makes sense. Haha!

Please visit my Instagram - I am very much active on this page more than the other social media sites there are. If you have any comments and suggestions, you may email me at helloshimmeringmom@gmail.com.

Welcome everyone and always be shimmering. ♥
